Article written by Jesse McJannett (aka Prymal Fitness) & Mitchell Branson.

With the silly season right around the corner we asked Jesse McJannett (aka Prymal Fitness), our resident fitness coach and certified sports nutritionist, his top tips for not losing progress whilst enjoying your holiday celebrations!

1) Enjoy yourself!

It’s too tempting to shame yourself for having a good time and letting loose during the Christmas season. You need to have a healthy relationship with food and that may mean you have to relax your standards a bit!

2) Portion Sizes

With enjoying yourself in mind, try to limit portion sizes. This means that you can definitely indulge in that slice of pavlova, maybe just don’t go back for thirds.

3) Fruit Is Your Friend

Australian Christmases are synonymous with a wide variety of delicious fruit! Mangoes are a fan favourite during summer to have a sweet treat without breaking the caloric bank. Apples, apricots, bananas, numerous berries and cantaloupe are all in season during summer, make the most of it now!

4) Focus On Protein Goals

With so many carb heavy dishes available around Christmas it’s important to keep up your protein intake! Prawns, ham and chicken make great protein boosters to any meal.

5) Limit Alcohol Consumption

A staple of Australian Christmas is alcohol and this is absolutely fine! Just like food it’s important to limit yourself. It’s good to let go and relax but don’t over do it!

6) Keep Active!

This is the most important part, do whatever you can to move and keep active. This doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym or training but playing with the kids, going for walks, swimming etc. are all great ways to burn some of those excess calories.
